Define “restart”.

Flash asked me if I wanted to update just now. The dialog window looked like this:

“no restart is required”. Great I thought. Then I got to this window:

“WTF?!” I though, they said that I did not need to restart anything! Oh, they mean “reboot”, but that’s weird, you never need to reboot. It like writing “Contains no poison” on food packaging. Then I remembered my Windows days and understood.

We don’t just need localization, we need platformization. Anyway, I cancelled the installation. Closing my browser and Spotify, just to install a new version of Flash? Nah. I use Flashblock anyway.

Android Orphans: Visualizing a Sad History of Support

• 7 of the 18 Android phones never ran a current version of the OS.
• 12 of 18 only ran a current version of the OS for a matter of weeks or less.
• 10 of 18 were at least two major versions behind well within their two year contract period.
• 11 of 18 stopped getting any support updates less than a year after release.
• 13 of 18 stopped getting any support updates before they even stopped selling the device or very shortly thereafter.
• 15 of 18 don’t run Gingerbread, which shipped in December 2010.

Tack Magnus!

Researchers can keylog your PC using your iPhone’s accelerometer

The researchers developed a method to accurately translate the vibrations from typing on a keyboard picked up by the device’s accelerometer when placed on a desk near a PC.

This is f*ing crazy!

iPhone 4S First Weekend Sales Top Four Million | Business Wire

Apple® today announced it has sold over four million of its new iPhone®
4S, just three days after its launch on October 14. In addition, more
than 25 million customers are already using iOS 5, the world’s most
advanced mobile operating system, in the first five days of its release,
and more than 20 million customers have signed up for iCloud®

I can’t even imagine the logistics involved in distributing four million units over the course of a weekend. 25 million people downloading the OS upgrade is also impressive (though they had some problems in the beginning). I do wonder though how many iPhone users there are. How many percent of the user base is 25 million?

Det man kan använda dock är att dela med sig av filer till folk. har också ett API som diverse appar använder sig av, så att man kan använda som ens eget lilla molnfillager.

Digital analogue constraint design

Lucas describes an app that works like an old disposable camera, whereby you have to shoot all 24 exposures before you can view the results, saying “It’s an opportunity to bring back the idea that you have this roll of film and you shoot with it, and you think about what you’re seeing in the moment, more so than snapping a photo and looking at it, deleting it or taking another one.” Lucas goes on to say, “It really is a completely different way to experience photography that a lot of people have forgotten about, but it wasn’t so long ago that people don’t remember it, and that’s the key.”
